Second House

Dhana Bhava, the House of Wealth, governs the resources a person accumulates and — just as classically — the values that determine what counts as worth accumulating in the first place. Its rulership over speech (Venus's own domain of refined expression) is not incidental: how a person talks about money, family, and possessions is treated as revealing as the possessions themselves.

This house's significations extend beyond bank balances to family lineage, early diet and nourishment, and the face and eyes — the features through which a person is first recognized. Classical texts pair wealth and family under the same house deliberately: financial security in Vedic thought is inseparable from the family structure a person is born into and later builds.

As a Panapara (succedent) house, the Second House sits just past the angular strength of the First, converting the raw identity the Ascendant establishes into tangible, accumulated resources — the practical follow-through on who a person is.

Jupiter and Venus, its two significators, represent two different kinds of wealth: Jupiter's expansive, ethically-grounded prosperity and Venus's refined enjoyment of what has been earned. A well-supported Second House is traditionally read as favoring both steady accumulation and the good sense to actually enjoy it.
