Gemstone Calculator
Navaratna — the "nine gems" of Jyotish — represent the nine Navagraha that govern human destiny. Wearing the gemstone aligned with your chart is traditionally believed to strengthen a favorable planet and support health, wealth, relationships, and career.
How Gemstone Recommendation Works
In Vedic astrology, gemstone recommendations are based on a careful analysis of your birth chart (Kundali). The primary factors considered include:
- Ascendant (Lagna): The rising sign at birth determines which planets are favorable for you — this is what our Advanced Mode calculates from your exact birth details.
- Moon Sign (Rashi): Your Rashi lord is generally considered favorable, making its gemstone a safe recommendation for most people — this is what our Quick Mode uses.
- Planetary Strength: A gemstone strengthens the planet it represents; if a benefic planet is weak in your chart, its gemstone can enhance its positive effects.
- Dasha Period: During the Mahadasha or Antardasha of a particular planet, wearing that planet's gemstone can amplify its results.
How to Wear Vedic Gemstones
- Purification: Before wearing, immerse the gemstone in raw milk, Ganga water, or a mixture of milk, honey, and water for at least 30 minutes (traditionally overnight).
- Auspicious Day: Each gemstone is ideally worn on the day associated with its ruling planet — see the day listed for each gem below.
- Correct Finger: Each gemstone is worn on a specific finger to activate the correct energy channel (Nadi) — also listed below.
- Metal Setting: Gold, silver, copper, or Panch Dhatu are used depending on the gemstone.
- Minimum Weight: Generally 3–5 carats is recommended, though this varies by gemstone and body weight.
- Mantra Recitation: While wearing the ring for the first time, recite the planet's Beej Mantra the prescribed number of times.
When to Avoid Gemstones
Not every gemstone is suitable for every person — wearing the wrong one can amplify unfavorable planetary influences:
- Malefic planets: Never wear the gemstone of a planet that is functionally unfavorable for your specific Ascendant (e.g. Blue Sapphire is generally not recommended for Leo Ascendant natives).
- Conflicting planets: Certain gemstones — Ruby (Sun) and Blue Sapphire (Saturn), for instance — are natural enemies and shouldn't be combined without expert guidance.
- Damaged or synthetic stones: Cracked, flawed, or lab-created stones do not carry the same planetary energy as natural gemstones and are not recommended for astrological purposes.
This calculator gives a general Lagna-lord or Rashi-lord recommendation only — it does not check for malefic-planet conflicts. For a complete, personalized gemstone analysis considering your full chart, Dasha periods, and yogas, generate your full Cosmic Blueprint.
Natural vs Synthetic Gemstones
For astrological purposes, natural, untreated gemstones are strongly preferred — Vedic tradition holds that their natural formation imbues them with planetary energy, which lab-created or heavily treated stones lack. Always request certification from a reputable gemological laboratory. If budget is a constraint, a substitute stone (Upratna) — such as Garnet for Ruby, Moonstone for Pearl, or Peridot for Emerald — can channel similar planetary energy at a fraction of the cost.
