Latta Dosha
लत्ता दोष
லத்தா தோஷம்
A live transit (Gochara) affliction, not fixed at birth. Certain planets, depending on today's transiting Nakshatra, cast a forward (Puro) or backward (Prishta) "kick" onto a specific other Nakshatra — when that target matches your natal Moon or Ascendant Nakshatra, the transit strikes you directly.

Astrological Causes
Each of the 9 classical grahas carries a fixed Nakshatra-count offset and direction, per the classical Jyothishi/Parashari transit lineage table. The four naturally direct, fiery grahas — Sun (12), Mars (3), Jupiter (6), Saturn (8) — cast their kick forward (Puro Latta) from their own transiting Nakshatra; the five naturally slower or retrograde-capable grahas — Moon (22), Mercury (7), Venus (5), Rahu (9), Ketu (9) — cast theirs backward (Prishta Latta). The dosha is "live" on a given day only when the resulting target Nakshatra coincides with the native's own Janma Nakshatra (birth Moon star) or Lagna Nakshatra (Ascendant star).
Effects
- Increased friction, delay, or obstruction in whichever life area the transiting planet governs — father/career under the Sun, mother/mind under the Moon, and so on for each of the 9 grahas
- Puro Latta hits (Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn) are traditionally read as the more acute of the two — sudden disputes, structural loss, or sharply blocked progress
- Prishta Latta hits (Moon, Mercury, Venus, Rahu, Ketu) are traditionally read as more diffuse — emotional fatigue, communication breakdowns, or quiet anxiety
- Multiple simultaneous obstructions — more than one planet kicking the same Nakshatra, or kicks landing on both the Janma and Lagna Nakshatra together — are traditionally read as intensifying the combined effect
Remedies (Upayas)
- Because Latta is a live transit condition rather than a fixed natal placement, its most direct remedy is simply awareness — checking which Nakshatras are currently afflicted before undertaking major decisions, travel, or new ventures
- Standard planet-specific remedies for whichever graha is casting the kick that day — the same Sun, Moon, Mars, and other planetary remedies detailed elsewhere on this page for that planet's other afflictions
- Chanting the Navagraha Stotra or performing a general Navagraha Shanti, since the affliction cycles through all nine grahas over time rather than any single one
- Deferring major, Muhurta-sensitive beginnings until the specific obstruction has passed, consistent with how classical Gochara analysis is generally applied
Understanding Latta Dosha
Latta Dosha — literally the planetary "kick" — occupies a genuinely different place among the doshas on this page: where Mangal, Kaal Sarp, and the rest are checked once, from a fixed natal chart, Latta is a live Gochara (transit) condition recalculated fresh every day. Each of the nine classical grahas carries its own fixed Nakshatra-count offset and direction — Puro Latta (forward) for the four naturally direct, fiery planets, Prishta Latta (backward) for the five naturally slower or retrograde-capable ones — and the affliction is only "live" on a given day if the resulting target Nakshatra happens to fall on the native's own Janma or Lagna Nakshatra.
This transit-based mechanism is why Latta Dosha is grouped separately here rather than folded into the Planetary category alongside Guru Chandal, Shani, Kemdrum, and Angarak Dosh — those describe a fixed configuration present, or absent, for life, while Latta comes and goes with the sky, sometimes landing on both the Janma and Lagna Nakshatra simultaneously for a more intense combined reading. Our Latta Dosha Report, included with Growth-tier membership and above, scans all nine live planetary transits daily against your exact natal Janma and Lagna Nakshatra and prints a full breakdown of any active obstruction.
