Calculation Method
Step-by-Step Calculation
- Determine the Moon's exact sidereal longitude at birth.
- Identify the birth Nakshatra and its ruling planet — this fixes the starting Mahadasha lord.
- Compute how far the Moon has already traveled through that Nakshatra's 13°20' arc.
- Use that fraction to calculate the balance of the first (birth) Mahadasha already elapsed at birth.
- Run the remaining Mahadashas in the fixed 9-planet sequence, each for its fixed year-length.

The first Mahadasha is only partially remaining at birth — its balance is proportional to how much of the birth Nakshatra's arc is still ahead of the Moon's exact degree.
Sub-Period Hierarchy
Each Mahadasha subdivides into 9 Antardashas (in the same 9-planet order, starting with the Mahadasha lord itself), each Antardasha into 9 Pratyantardashas, and so on — a self-similar structure down to Sookshma and Prana dashas for fine-grained timing.
